10 Major problems with our culture: (not our country)

June 3, 2008

Air Date June 8 @ 6:30 am on 104.7FM Host Pastor Roy Aiken, Jr. and Co-Host Shelli Prindle

There are 10 Major problems with our culture: (not our country)

1. We do not study

2. We do not exercise

3. We complain about trivia

4. We over eat

5. We worry

6. We lie

7. We are proud about things we should be ashamed of

8. We are lazy

9. We are greedy

10. We want convenience

How to study the Bible 2Tim 2:14-15 KJV; Pro 11:28 KJV;, Is 50:4 KJV;

I. The Bible is distinguished from all other books of antiquity for three reasons

A. Invariability – meaning it never changes (it is affective for all time)

B. Inviolable – secure from violation

C. Inglorious – humble

Invariable

Proper interpretation of its context helps us to preserve its invariable principles and doctrine.

A. Hermeneutics – science of interpretation

Thomas Aquinas 1225-73

1264 wrote – Summa Contra Gentiles It was a succinct theses about faith and reason.

There can be no conflict between the deliverance of faith and the deliverance of reason.[1]

1. What is the message of the Bible as a whole?

a. God is creator Is. 40:26-28 KJV

b. Man is a sinner Psalm 51:5-6 KJV

c. Jesus Christ is Savor 1Tim 2:5-6 KJV

D. Heaven and Hell are real Rev 20:14-15 KJV; Rev 21:1-8 KJV

(The mythology of Oranous in the creation myth and Hades the God of the dead[2] didn’t influence the writers of scripture on the subjects of heaven and hell)

2. The context and purpose of each book

A. 1Cor 1:10-13KJV – This is primarily the reason for Paul writing the book of First Corinthians.

3. To whom was it addressed.

A. In order to understand the context of the book you are reading it is necessary to know something about the people and places surrounding the writer.

1. 1Cor 11:1-16 KJV If you don’t know something about the context of this passage you could come up with some abatement of truth. Tallis[3]

4. The context

A. Rule of context: Never inject, dissect, select any passage out of its setting.
